HERstory of Artificial Intelligence in Australia

Women in AI Australia Ltd at the OECD: Supporting Intersectoral Mobility in AI

Women in AI Australia Ltd represented Australia at the OECD, contributing to global discussions on intersectoral mobility in artificial intelligence. The session examined how countries can better enable the movement of AI talent across industry, academia, and government.

From an Australian female perspective, we discussed key enablers and barriers, including differences in wages and working conditions, cultural divides between open research and proprietary environments, and the rigidity of traditional career structures. We explored more practical levers for reform, such as more flexible role design, clearer AI career pathways, and the role of public-private partnerships in pooling research infrastructure and capability.

Our contribution reinforces our commitment to building an inclusive, mobile, and future ready AI workforce that supports innovation, productivity, and national resilience for girls and women in Australia.
